About

RebelsCare was founded in 2010 to give high school students an opportunity to serve those in need in the community.   The organization was founded by Max Blum, a Senior at New Fairfield High School under the direction of Debbie Blum and Doris McDermott.  The name “Rebels” is the nickname for sports teams and other activities at New Fairfield High School.

Many homeowners struggle to maintain their properties.  These are the elderly, disabled, sick, unemployed, and generally overwhelmed.   RebelsCare assists them in taking care of basic home repairs and maintenance (ex painting, yard cleanup, basic carpentry projects).  Most of the work is done by teen volunteers under adult direction.

 Recent projects have included:

  • Installing smoke detectors for senior citizens in New Fairfield
  • Yard cleanup for New Fairfield senior citizen
  • Coordinated Large home repair project for needy Sherman residents including roof replacement, gutter replacement, and exterior painting
  • Gutter replacement and deck repair for New Fairfield senior citizens

Although all labor is done by volunteers, we incur expenses associated with supplies (ex. paint, lumber, hardware) for home repairs.    Home repairs have been a key component of RebelsCare since our founding.
